Lenovo ThinkPad T400

The new 14-inch ThinkPad T400 is the latest Lenovo notebook based off of the Intel Montevina platform. This computer offers all new features such as hybrid graphics, LED backlit displays, and power-saving refinements that let the notebook get extraordinary battery life. With all these changes taking place, Lenovo has also managed to keep the notebook looking like classic (boring) as always, just how ThinkPad lovers who like it.

The design of the T400 has changed a bit. The changes are subtle to the untrained eye, but they are there. The right side is slightly tilted similar to what can be found in the number of older T4x, where the parties angle inward instead of dropping out flat.Upgrade and expansion is a step harder than most laptops, but yet very simple

Build quality is very similar to the previous generation T61, with all its strengths and weaknesses. Fit and finish are great with most parties, but still has a lot of wiggle battery in the back, as well as the feeling of cheap plastic LCD cover.

Lenovo ThinkPad T400 comes with the Intel T9600, clocking in at 2.8GHz, and jammed full of 6MB cache. For graphics, Lenovo includes an ATI Radeon 3470 video card with 256MB of GDDR3 memory. A fast 7200 RPM 160 GB hard drive also included, which contributed to the applications load without much delay. This notebook was awaiting overnight use, and had enough power to handle most games around the office to kill some time. Half-Life 2 in native resolution (1440x900) remained above 30FPS even in big action scenes. Portal was another favorite that worked very well in the native resolution, keeping over framerates 40FPS throughout most of the game.

ThinkPad T400 specifications:

Dell Inspiron 13 : Follows the design direction of the new Studio series

The all new Dell Inspiron 13 (1318) continues design of the new series Studio, as well as the XPS M1330 and XPS M1530. This sleek looking notebook offers a slot-loading optical drive. With a starting price of less than $ 700, this notebook is intended to be quite popular among students and average consumers looking for something more than a portable 15-inch laptop.

The design of the Inspiron 13 is truly remarkable and what distinguishes it from the older Inspiron notebooks. The design is, in short, attractive. The angled look bright blue cap and immediately attention grabbing. The slope is similar to a rapid drop in cars tear see.

The display in the Inspiron on 13 types of media, with the only drawback panel to be poor viewing angles. The screen brightness is ideal for around the office or classroom, but is not sufficiently bright to use outside on a sunny day.

Speakers of Inspiron 13 are located at the top of the keyboard. There is not much to write home about speakers, are loudly enough for insurance, but the sound is a bit tinny as is the case with almost all portable speakers. The volume of audio controls are touch-sensitive buttons on the top right of the keyboard.

Let's face the facts. This is a scrapbook budget priced below $ 700. You can not expect the Inspiron 13 to perform as a media center, but still surprisingly done. Since 13 Inspiron model is equipped with Pentium-based dual-core processor instead of the new Core 2 Duo you can expect this notebook to be a little slow for video encoding (transfer video from a camcorder to a computer) and audio (ripping your CD to MP3 files). This processor provides a slower 533MHz FSB, let alone system cache. So, still performed admirably, achieving results similar to synthetic reference budget notebooks with Core 2 Duo processor.

Dell Inspiron 13 (1318) specifications:

* Screen: 13.3" WXGA TrueLife Glossy
* Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core T2390 (1.86GHz, 533FSB, 1MB Cache)
* Memory: 2GB RAM
* Storage: 160GB HDD (5400rpm)

HP Pavilion dv5t : Most Popular Laptop

The HP Pavilion dv5t is replacing the ever-popular dv6000 series notebooks. This is a complete redesign that includes many new features. The dv5t se basa in the latest Intel chips "Montevina" 2 Centrino mobile technology and is available with powerful dedicated graphics.

The design of the HP Pavilion dv5t is simply beautiful. It is elegant and sophisticated, tasteful accents. The entire notebook is streamlined, and no matter what angle you look, you see very well. This notebook has a "soft" with the design from all corners rounded. Looking at the side of the laptop, the rear is a semicircle, and the front and curves up the bow of a ship. When the screen is closed, the back of the notebook has a raked to see what is attractive. The screen only has a great hinge, which adds to its elegant appearance. The chassis is relatively thin at 1.37 to 1.65 inches thick.

The notebook itself is highly resistant plastic and feels solid. There is absolutely no flex in the palmrests or surrounding areas, and the base of portable resist bending as a period of two to four. No part of this notebook is little or material of dubious quality. The plastic is fairly thick, especially around the palmrests, which is welcome.

With the introduction of the HP Pavilion series dv5 notebooks, HP is finally offering high-resolution displays. The dv5t currently offered with one or WXGA resolution SXGA +. The screen WXGA (1280 x 800 resolution) is what most 15.4-inch notebooks in the stores are, and the most common resolution 15.4-inch laptops. The screen WSXGA + (1680 x 1050 resolution) is what my laptop has. It has a 42% more space you can see the screen WXGA, which is why we chose him. Higher resolution screens let you see more and move less. For example, if I see a great website, I could see a 42% increase in the content WSXGA + show that in the WXGA display. Another example-while viewing a high resolution picture, I see 42% more detail on the screen WSXGA + in the WXGA. WSXGA + makes it possible to use larger windows side by side, it would be hard-pressed to see two virtually spreadsheets side by side with a WXGA display, but with the high-resolution SXGA +, is only possible (that could done without diminishing the windows too).

HP offers 32 - and 64-bit versions of Vista in dv5t. Home Premium is standard, while Ultimate is available as an upgrade. He Home Premium 32-bit on my machine. I went with 32-bit because some of the devices I use does not have 64-bit drivers.

HP unfortunately pre-load a lot of bloatware in the factory image of the hard disk. Upon receiving the notebook, he immediately erased the drive and made a clean installation of Vista orev excellent using the Clean Install Guide in the forums. This enabled me to begin with a new installation of the operating system and drivers.

HP Pavilion dv5t notebook has the following specifications:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor (2.26GHz/ 1066MHz FSB/ 3MB L2)
  • 15.4-inch WSXGA+ Infinity display
  • Nvidia GeForce 9600M-GT w/ 512MB DDR2 dedicated video card
  • 2GB DDR2-800 RAM (2x 1GB)
  • 160GB 5400RPM hard drive (Fujitsu)
  • Broadcom 802.11b/g wireless + Bluetooth
  • Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Dell Studio 17 (XPS M1330 and XPS M1530)

Last year Dell finally realized that consumers don't want another nameless, faceless black and gray laptop that gets lost in the crowd. Today's mobile generation wants notebooks that are as unique and stylish as possible. The result was the amazingly attractive and amazingly popular 13.3" XPS M1330 and the 15.4" Dell XPS M1530. Taking things one step further, Dell announced the highly customizable Studio 15 and Studio 17 notebooks.

For a number of years the phrase, "Dude, you're getting a Dell" from old Dell television commercials was synonymous with heavy, thick, and boxy laptops that offered great value but where short on style. In fact, several competing laptop manufacturers developed sleek notebooks over the last five years that attracted consumers mainly due to their more "personal" appearance. The new Studio line from Dell is the latest example of how Dell has finally learned that the package matters almost as much as the contents of the box.

The Studio 17 is available in your choice of seven colors: Plum Purple, Tangerine Orange, Flamingo Pink, Midnight Blue, Ruby Red, Spring Green or standard Jet Black.

Dell Studio 17 notebook is equipped with the following specifications:

HP Pavilion dv5z

The newest 15-inch notebook from HP arrives just in time to make a big impact for back-to-school shoppers in 2008. The HP Pavilion dv5z features the latest AMD dual-core processors, cutting edge graphics that slaughter the competition, and a price that's so competitive you'll have a hard time coming up with reasons not to buy this notebook. Take a look at our full review and find out what makes this notebook so impressive.

The dv5z has a new and improved design, replacing the long-lasting and much-loved dv6000 series chassis design. The display cover has the durable plastic Imprint finish, which holds up quite well to minor abrasion without scratching. The body of the notebook is smooth with rounded edges, making it extremely comfortable in your hand while carrying it around. The screen also sports a latchless design, making it easy to open the notebook with one hand. Although the lid lacks any latch to keep it held shut, the hinges feel fairly strong, keeping the lid secure. Pressing firmly onto the back of the screen cover will produce some ripples on the screen ... but you must apply significant pressure to cause this.

HP offers the new Pavilion dv5z with a range of AMD processors, including the older generation 1.9GHz Athlon X2 QL-60 dual-core processor. However, the big news this year is the availability of AMD's new "Puma" platform with improved processors and graphics. The new AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-80 2.1GHz dual-core processor is an obvious evolution of AMD processor technology, but the real news is the integrated graphics.

HP Pavilion dv5z has the following specifications:

  • Processor: 2.1GHz AMD Turion X2 Ultra dual-core processor ZM-80
  • Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 3200
  • Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium with SP 1 (64-bit)
  • Screen: 15.4" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)

Asus Eee PC 1000

Rumors of a 10-inch Eee PC bring ASUSTeK in the spotlight
The Computex Show, which will be held between June 3 and June 7, is going to bring a lot of highly expected products. ASUSTeK, which will be attending the computer show in Taiwan, is expected to globally launch its new Eee PC 901 notebook. On top of that, it appears that the company will also release the Eee PC 1000 series, a product that wasn't expected by any of the Eee PC fans.

ASUSTeK might be releasing the 10-inch version of their Eee PC 901 portable as a response to MSI's popular 10-inch display Wind. It is yet unclear what the 1000 series will bring as far as technical specifications go, but chances are it will only bring an increase in the display size, as compared to the 901 version. News about the possible release surfaced when UMPC Fever journalists received an invitation from ASUSTeK.

According to the invitation, the journalists are to expect the release of the Eee PC 901 and 1000 series. "ASUS is looking forward to welcoming you during Computex 2008 in Taipei, Taiwan, for the ASUS' 08 Computex Trilogy of launch events. We would also like to specially extend an invitation to you to attend the official global launch of the new Eee PC™ 901 and 1000 series.", read a personal note from Jonney Shih, ASUSTeK Chairman, which was included in the invitation.

No one can tell for certain how the Eee PC fans will react and if the two models are going to benefit from the same level of success. If the 1000 series is only going to bring an improvement in display size, then maybe the Eee PC 901 will slowly lose its popularity, that is if it receives any whatsoever. Still ASUSTeK deserves credit for creating a brand that has changed the face of the portable computer market.

Customer Review of amazon.com vertion

By Patrick Wong (Great Tablet PC)
After thoroughly researching many different tablet PCs from Lenovo, Toshiba, Gateway, HP, and Fujitsu, the Asus offered the best combination of screen size, features, weight, performance and price. If you want a Core 2 Duo system - there aren't many so this really narrows the field. The 13.3" screen was also perfect too. the 12s being too small and the 14s being too big. In fact, you're getting the size and weight of a 12 inch system with the screen of a 14 inch system. The Asus arrived very quickly and comes packaged like a Mac system - that is, well designed packaging that even includes a carry case, portfolio case and a hard case. None of this makes for a better computer - but it sure is nice to know Asus puts some thought into the whole package. In terms of performance and features - this tablet PC does very well with no issues running Alias Sketchbook Pro or any other Office applications. The only glitch I've found so far is the screen orientation button stopped working. After checking out a few forums, an update to the graphics driver easily solved the problem. the built in wireless and bluetooth perform well and the included bluetooth mouse is a nice bonus. There isn't much missing except the built in card reader doesn't support xD cards and the battery life (around 3 hours) could be longer. Overall, I'm very happy with the R1F after a few weeks of ownership and would buy it all over again.

By Pete Phillipis (Sticking Mouse Cursor)
Have had this tablet for over 6 months and still have not found a resolution to the sticking mouse cursor. My problem occurs with the tablet plugged into AC power, usually within a minute of being plugged in. As soon as I unplug the tablet and go on battery power, the cursor unsticks from the corner and it works fine. I can also unstick the cursor by changing from landscape to portrait mode but that fix only works temporarily as it sticks quickly thereafter. Running on battery power is the only way I can get it to not continously stick. Considering the battery easily drains when I haven't used the laptop for a week, I have to keep this tablet charged to make sure it is available for use.
